The entire gospel is about justice. First Peter 3:18 states, “For Christ died once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God.”

While we were yet sinners, Jesus intervened on our behalf and bore the weight of God’s wrath and justice, that we might be rescued from the oppression of sin and death. In this vein, Christ is our ultimate advocate before a just God. Christ intervening on our behalf gives us the model to intervene on behalf of others who are living under physical oppression in order to share with them the freedom from spiritual oppression in Christ Jesus.

The Bible also speaks very directly to Christian men and women to carry out acts of justice and to rescue the oppressed.

Isaiah 1:17 says “seek justice, correct oppression, bring justice to the fatherless and plead the widow’s cause.” Just as God requires that Christian disciples feed the hungry, clothe the naked and heal the sick, he also calls his followers to exercise justice on behalf of the oppressed. Micah 6:8 says, “He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” The biblical mandate to seek justice on behalf of the oppressed using Christ’s model as the definitive advocate is the foundation for ACT’s ministry in Dallas.
